Day 3 in Florida

Sunday was awesome! The day began at the Air Force Armament Museum at Eglin AFB. Eglin is a few miles north of Destin on the other side of Choctawhatchee Bay. I could see Eglin's control tower, main hangar, and airport beacon from the condo balcony. The Armament Museum is very well done. It's rather small when compared to the museums at Dayton and Pensacola, but it is unique in that it focuses on aircraft armament, with a large display of missiles, bombs, and rockets. It also has a rather large collection of military aircraft on display outside.

After the museum we took at least a half hour hunting a place to eat and wound up at the Whale's Tail, a restaurant situated like a beach shack with a huge dining deck overlooking the Gulf. That is the ultimate in "dining atmosphere", in my opinion! I had fish and chips (again).

Later that afternoon/evening, we took a two-hour sailboat ride (I'm afraid of three-hour tours, obviously, so I opted for the two :-D). It was incredible! It was my first time ever on a sailing vessel, and it was a lot of fun just watching the captain and first mate operating the sails. The Gulf was incredibly calm, and the crew mentioned that it was one of the nicest nights for sailing in Destin that they had seen. We returned to harbor just in time to see a remarkable sunset.

What a tremendous day this was. I had the camera clicking almost continuously, and have lots of good pictures from today. Pictured above is a dead-on shot of an F-15 at the Armament Museum and a selection of some of my best shots from the sailboat.
