Day 4 in Florida
Monday was our last full day in Florida and was more-or-less a day to wind down. We spend about 90 minutes on the beach in the morning before the heat and crowds took over. Later, we went over to Destin Commons, a large outdoor shopping mall similar to Levis Commons in Perrysburg and Jefferson Pointe in Fort Wayne, for those of you who are familiar.
Lunch was excellent at the Hard Rock Cafe, but there wasn't much interesting shopping in the mall, besides Bass Pro Shops. The rest of the day was pretty quiet.
We left Destin Tuesday morning and overnighted in Bowling Green, KY. We returned to Ft. Wayne Wednesday afternoon.
It was one of the most entertaining and rewarding vacations I've taken. I had a lot of fun, saw some cool stuff, and took some really great photos. I can definitely say that Destin and the Outer Banks of NC are my two favorite places to vacation. The two places are very different, though. Where OBX is mostly wide-open, natural beaches protected by Federal law, Destin is getting overcrowed. Travelling around Destin was a nightmare; cars were everywhere and it was just miserable to try to go from point A to point B. The scary thing is peak time in Destin doesn't start until Memorial Day! I don't see how the already gridlocked town can handle more traffic than it had this past weekend. The secret is out on the Florida Panhandle; people are coming in droves, and the infrastructure can't handle it.
I'll without a doubt return to Destin, but not right away. I'll be going somewhere different next year, probably either OBX again or somewhere new.
Pictured is the gorgeous beach at Destin (trust me - photos don't do it justice), and the Sundestin condominium where we stayed.
