Thank You #19

In about 1 hour, Steve Yzerman will announce his retirement from the Detroit Red Wings.

Steve Yzerman is simply one of the greatest hockey players of all time, and perhaps the greatest captain in all of professional sports. He began his career in 1983 with Detroit, and became Detroit's captain in 1986. That's right, he's been the Red Wings captain for 20 years straight.

So much about Yzerman is legendary. His leadership, obviously. How he carried the team on his back so many times...even while injured. It's impossible to condense 23 years of excellent hockey into words. Yzerman's career stats and bio are here.

Here is a video of one of his more famous moments: his 1996 double-OT game winner in game 7 vs. St. Louis.

ESPN's article on Yzerman's retirement is here. Be sure to check out the photo gallery; there's a link to it in the box on the upper right side of the page.
