Dodge Challenger to Debut at 2006 Detroit Show
It's official now...Challenger is here. Pretty much exactly what I wanted it to be, too. My only complaints are that it might be a tad too retro, plus it's a little too big...116 inch wheelbase. I would be happier if it were around 8-10 inches shorter.
Other than that, it's a piece of art. It's almost like they plugged 97% of my ideas for this car into their CAD program and went from there. For more pictures of the actual car, go here.
The car in this format is purely a concept car, to officially debut next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Evidently, it's not 100% official that it will see production (I'd call it 95% official, though). There are still some questions regarding how production would proceed, too. It's not known whether the car is meant to be produced in low volume or high volume...most analysts predict it will be somewhere in the middle: not in numbers like the 300, Magnum, and Charger, but not a limited edition either. It's also too early to tell if a convertible version is in the works.
Pricing is expected to be right around where I said in posts earlier this year: low-20s for a V6, just under $30k for a 5.7L Hemi V8, and just under $40k for the 6.1L Hemi. There's also a 6.5L Hemi that might find it's way into a special edition...in order to compete with the 500hp Mustang that's expected in 2007.
I'm happy I decided to put off getting another car for a few years. :-)
