Komets Win! Komets Win!

Last night I went to see my first Fort Wayne Komets hockey game of the season, where they played the division-leading Rockford Ice Hogs. It was a back-and-forth game all the way through, as the Komets trailed 1-0, led 2-1, and later trailed again 3-2. The Komets tied the game late in the third period when defenseman Steve Rodberg scored on a slapshot from the point on the power play. Kevin Kotyluk and Jonathan Goodwin also scored for the Komets in regulation.

The game was rather sloppily played, not unusual for an early-season UHL game. The Komets got into penalty trouble in the second period and gave up a power play goal. Overall the Komets took more penalties than Rockford did. There was one fight about midway through the third.

The game went to a shootout, where Dustin Virag, P.C. Drouin, and Rodberg scored for the Komets, and goalie Tyler Masters allowed no goals, giving the Komets a 4-3 victory.
