If you pay any sort of attention to political news, I'm sure you've heard of the flap over the George W. Bush Air Guard documents. Basically what happened was Dan Rather and CBS News put forth supposed internal memos from TexANG documenting special treatment for Bush and his disobeying direct orders. Almost immediately after that 60 Minutes II broadcast, conservative blogs and message boards across the internet began casting doubt on the validity of the documents.
Well, almost a week has past since the story broke, and things aren't looking good for Rather and CBS. Independent experts far and wide believe that the documents are undoubtedly fake. The documents, supposedly from 1972 and 1973, are typed in the exact default settings for tab, margin, and type found in Microsoft Word. Oops. Several bloggers took the document .pdf's from the CBS website, typed up a copy of the document in MS Word, and overlayed one on top of the other...they matched up exactly.
And just today, there is news that an expert on the subject made her concerns about the documents known to CBS before they went to air with them. CBS seemed unconcerned then, and they remain convinced (publicly, at least) of the documents' authenticity, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
How will this play out? PowerLine, Instapundit, and Little Green Footballs are following this closely, and have excellent, up-to-the-minute info.
