Radar Training Begins

Almost a full 7 weeks after my checkout on local, I have finally begun radar training. It was exciting getting my first briefing, plugging in, and getting to work. I don't think it went too badly. I can already tell what my biggest struggles will be initially. Scanning between the strips and the scope, along with keeping the stripmarking updated, just seems really awkward right now. Also figuring out what altitude to climb/descend guys to on initial contact or when they first enter my airspace is also kind of a question mark right now. I know it will all get better; I've only trained for 2 hours so far...hundreds of hours to go!! I plan to take it one session at a time and learn all I can as I go along...and gradually get more comfortable with the whole thing.

My first "radar contact" was with STING61, a flight of 2 F-16 Vipers. My supervisor printed out a STING61 flight strip and turned it into a makeshift certificate for me. I'm sure I'll hang onto that for a long time!

Micah, my secondary trainer, has his own take on the matter.
