The NHL Draft (Sat 26 Jun, 1200 EDT, ESPN2) is coming up soon and no huge surprises are expected. Alexander Ovechkin will likely go #1 to Washington, and Evgeni Malkin almost assuredly will go to Pittsburgh as the #2 pick. The remainder of the draft class is said to be rather thin, so almost all focus has been on the two Russians at the top of everybody's lists.
There were a few rumblings last week about a few teams, including the Red Wings, possibly being interested in trading for the top pick. That talk has died down lately, as it appears Washington is eager to add Ovechkin, a cant-miss prospect, to their roster. I look for almost all teams to stand pat, as the upcoming league implosion over the collective bargaining agreement looms in the not-too-distant future. I don't see teams wishing to make large alterations to their rosters and salary structures when the future of the league as a whole is up in the air.

The draft used to be unpredictable and somewhat exciting, but this year in kindof dissapointing. Oh well, hockey is still a great sport.
